Dua When Visiting the Graveyard
When visiting a graveyard, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught his companions to greet the inhabitants of the graves and ask Allah Ta’ala for well-being for both the living and the deceased. This Masnoon Dua is authentically reported in Sahih Muslim 975.
Dua in Arabic
السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الدِّيَارِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَلَاحِقُونَ، أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ لَنَا وَلَكُمُ الْعَافِيَةَ
Roman English
Assalaamu ‘alaikum ahlad-diyaari minal-mu’mineena wal-muslimeen, wa innaa in shaa’Allahu lalāhiqoon, as’alullaaha lanaa wa lakumul-‘aafiyah.
English Meaning
“Peace be upon you, O inhabitants of these dwellings, from among the believers and Muslims. Indeed, if Allah wills, we will join you. I ask Allah for well-being for us and for you.”
