Dua Before Drinking Zamzam
When drinking Zamzam water, a person should begin by mentioning the name of Allah and may make sincere Dua for whatever good they seek. There is no specific Dua before drinking Zamzam that is established as a fixed Prophetic wording. However, it is reported that Hazrat Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما would make the following supplication when drinking Zamzam.
Dua in Arabic
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا وَاسِعًا، وَشِفَاءً مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ
Roman English
Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman naafi‘an, wa rizqan waasi‘an, wa shifaa’an min kulli daa’in.
English Meaning
“O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and healing from every illness.”
Reference
This supplication is reported from Hazrat Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما, who would say it after drinking Zamzam. It is not established as a specific Prophetic Dua that must be recited before drinking Zamzam. Scholars have also explained that a person may make any beneficial and sincere Dua while drinking Zamzam.
A narration in Sunan Ibn Majah 3061 also mentions drinking Zamzam while facing the Qiblah, mentioning Allah’s name, drinking deeply, and praising Allah afterward.
