Dua at Safa and Marwah
During Sa‘i between Safa and Marwah in Hajj or Umrah, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would remember Allah and make Dua at both Safa and Marwah. When approaching Safa, he ﷺ recited the verse “Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah”, then declared the Oneness of Allah and made Dua.
Dua in Arabic
إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ
أَبْدَأُ بِمَا بَدَأَ اللَّهُ بِهِ
Then, facing the Qiblah, the Prophet ﷺ said:
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ، أَنْجَزَ وَعْدَهُ، وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَهُ، وَهَزَمَ الْأَحْزَابَ وَحْدَهُ
Roman English
Innas-Safaa wal-Marwata min sha‘aa’irillaah.
Abda’u bimaa bada’allaahu bihi.
Laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamd, wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shay’in qadeer.
Laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdah, anjaza wa‘dah, wa nasara ‘abdah, wa hazamal-ahzaaba wahdah.
English Meaning
“Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah.”
“I begin with that which Allah began with.”
“There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs the dominion and to Him is all praise, and He is over everything capable.”
“There is no god but Allah alone. He fulfilled His promise, helped His servant, and defeated the confederates alone.”

Hazrat Jabir رضي الله عنه described the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ’s Hajj and reported that when he reached Safa, he recited the verse regarding Safa and Marwah, faced the Qiblah, declared the Oneness of Allah, praised Him and made Dua. He then did the same at Marwah.
Important: The Prophet ﷺ would make Dua after reciting this Dhikr, so a person should also make their own sincere Dua at Safa and Marwah rather than believing that only one particular supplication must be made.
