Dua When Seeing the Ramadan Moon
When the Ramadan moon (crescent) is sighted, Muslims welcome the blessed month with gratitude and hope. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught a beautiful Dua to recite when seeing the new moon, asking Allah Ta’ala to bring the month with blessing, faith, safety and Islam. This Dua can be recited when the Ramadan crescent is seen.
Dua in Arabic
اللَّهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْيُمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ، وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ، رَبِّي وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ
Roman English
Allahumma ahillahu ‘alayna bil-yumni wal-eemaan, was-salaamati wal-Islaam, rabbee wa rabbuk-Allah.
English Meaning
“O Allah, bring this moon over us with blessing and faith, and with safety and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.”

Hazrat Talhah bin Ubaidullah رضي الله عنه narrated that when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saw the new moon, he would recite this Dua. It is therefore appropriate to recite it when sighting the crescent of Ramadan.
Note: This is a general Dua for seeing the new moon, rather than a Dua exclusively specific to Ramadan. The same Masnoon Dua may be recited upon sighting the Ramadan crescent.
