Dua When Seeing the New Moon
When the new moon (crescent moon) is sighted, this Masnoon Dua should be recited. Hazrat Talhah bin Ubaidullah رضي الله عنه narrated that when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saw the crescent moon, he would ask Allah Ta’ala to bring the new moon with blessing, faith, safety and Islam. (sunnah.com)
Dua in Arabic
اللَّهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْيُمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ، وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ، رَبِّي وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ
Roman English
Allahumma ahillahu ‘alayna bil-yumni wal-eemaan, was-salaamati wal-Islaam, rabbee wa rabbuk-Allah.
English Meaning
“O Allah, bring this moon over us with blessing and faith, and with safety and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.” (sunnah.com)

This Dua is narrated from Hazrat Talhah bin Ubaidullah رضي الله عنه in Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi 3451. Imam Abu Isa al-Tirmidhi described the narration as Hasan Gharib. A similar narration is also mentioned in Riyad as-Salihin 1228.
