Morning Azkar
Morning Azkar are a beautiful Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and a means of remembering Allah Ta’ala at the beginning of the day. These authentic supplications include seeking Allah’s protection, forgiveness, well-being and blessings throughout the day. The following are among the established morning Adhkar reported in authentic Hadith.
Dua in Arabic
1. Allahumma Bika Asbahna
اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أَصْبَحْنَا، وَبِكَ أَمْسَيْنَا، وَبِكَ نَحْيَا، وَبِكَ نَمُوتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ النُّشُورُ
2. Bismillahil-ladhi La Yadurru
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ، وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
3. Sayyidul Istighfar
اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي، فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
4. Subhanallahi Wa Bihamdihi
سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ
Roman English
1. Allahumma Bika Asbahna
Allahumma bika asbahnaa, wa bika amsaynaa, wa bika nahyaa, wa bika namootu, wa ilaikan-nushoor.
2. Bismillahil-ladhi La Yadurru
Bismillaahil-ladhee laa yadurru ma‘asmihi shay’un fil-ardi wa laa fis-samaa’i, wa Huwas-Samee‘ul-‘Aleem.
3. Sayyidul Istighfar
Allahumma anta Rabbee laa ilaaha illaa anta, khalaqtanee wa ana ‘abduka, wa ana ‘alaa ‘ahdika wa wa‘dika mastata‘tu, a‘oodhu bika min sharri maa sana‘tu, aboo’u laka bini‘matika ‘alayya, wa aboo’u laka bidhanbee, faghfir lee, fa innahu laa yaghfirudh-dhunooba illaa anta.
4. Subhanallahi Wa Bihamdihi
Subhaanallaahi wa bihamdihi.
English Meaning
Allahumma Bika Asbahna:
“O Allah, by Your power we have reached the morning, by Your power we reach the evening, by Your power we live and by Your power we die, and to You is the resurrection.”
Bismillahil-ladhi La Yadurru:
“In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”
Sayyidul Istighfar:
“O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no deity except You. You created me and I am Your servant. I acknowledge Your blessings upon me and I acknowledge my sins, so forgive me, for none can forgive sins except You.”
Subhanallahi Wa Bihamdihi:
“Glory is to Allah and praise is to Him.”
Reference
Allahumma Bika Asbahna: Reported in Riyad as-Salihin 1453, from Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه.
Bismillahil-ladhi La Yadurru: The Prophet ﷺ taught that it should be recited three times in the morning and three times in the evening. Sunan Abi Dawud 5088, graded Sahih by Al-Albani.
Sayyidul Istighfar: Sahih al-Bukhari 6306. The Prophet ﷺ described it as the best way of seeking Allah’s forgiveness and mentioned its great virtue when recited with firm faith.
Subhanallahi Wa Bihamdihi: The Prophet ﷺ taught its recitation 100 times in the morning and evening. Sahih Muslim, reported in Riyad as-Salihin 1451.
