Evening Azkar


Evening Azkar are among the beautiful Sunnahs of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for remembering Allah Ta’ala at the end of the day. These authentic supplications include seeking Allah’s protection, forgiveness, well-being and blessings throughout the evening and night. The Prophet ﷺ taught specific Adhkar to be recited in the evening, including the following.

Dua in Arabic

1. Allahumma Bika Amsayna

اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أَمْسَيْنَا، وَبِكَ أَصْبَحْنَا، وَبِكَ نَحْيَا، وَبِكَ نَمُوتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ

2. Bismillahil-ladhi La Yadurru

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ، وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

3. Sayyidul Istighfar

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي، فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

4. Subhanallahi Wa Bihamdihi

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ

Roman English

1. Allahumma Bika Amsayna

Allahumma bika amsaynaa, wa bika asbahnaa, wa bika nahyaa, wa bika namootu, wa ilaikal-maseer.

2. Bismillahil-ladhi La Yadurru

Bismillaahil-ladhee laa yadurru ma‘asmihi shay’un fil-ardi wa laa fis-samaa’i, wa Huwas-Samee‘ul-‘Aleem.

3. Sayyidul Istighfar

Allahumma anta Rabbee laa ilaaha illaa anta, khalaqtanee wa ana ‘abduka, wa ana ‘alaa ‘ahdika wa wa‘dika mastata‘tu, a‘oodhu bika min sharri maa sana‘tu, aboo’u laka bini‘matika ‘alayya, wa aboo’u laka bidhanbee, faghfir lee, fa innahu laa yaghfirudh-dhunooba illaa anta.

4. Subhanallahi Wa Bihamdihi

Subhaanallaahi wa bihamdihi.

English Meaning

Allahumma Bika Amsayna:
“O Allah, by Your power we have reached the evening, by Your power we have reached the morning, by Your power we live and by Your power we die, and to You is the return.”

Bismillahil-ladhi La Yadurru:
“In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”

Sayyidul Istighfar:
“O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no deity except You. You created me and I am Your servant. I acknowledge Your blessings upon me and I acknowledge my sins, so forgive me, for none can forgive sins except You.”

Subhanallahi Wa Bihamdihi:
“Glory is to Allah and praise is to Him.”

Reference

Allahumma Bika Amsayna: Reported in Sunan Abi Dawud 5068 and Riyad as-Salihin 1453. The evening wording begins with Allahumma bika amsayna

Bismillahil-ladhi La Yadurru: The Prophet ﷺ taught reciting it three times in the evening. Sunan Abi Dawud 5088; graded Sahih by Al-Albani. 

Sayyidul Istighfar: Sahih al-Bukhari 6306. The Prophet ﷺ described this as the best way of seeking Allah’s forgiveness and mentioned its great virtue when recited with firm faith.

Subhanallahi Wa Bihamdihi: The Prophet ﷺ taught its recitation 100 times in the morning and evening. Riyad as-Salihin 1451, reported from Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه.
