Dua When Starting a Journey


When starting a journey, this Masnoon Dua is recited. In this supplication, we praise Allah Ta’ala and ask Him for righteousness, piety, ease and protection throughout the journey.

Dua in Arabic

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ ۝ وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَٰذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ، وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَىٰ، اللَّهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هَٰذَا وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَهُ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ، وَالْخَلِيفَةُ فِي الْأَهْلِ

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ، وَكَآبَةِ الْمَنْظَرِ، وَسُوءِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ فِي الْمَالِ وَالْأَهْلِ

Roman English

Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar.

Subhaanalladhee sakhkhara lanaa haadhaa wa maa kunnaa lahoo muqrineen. Wa innaa ilaa rabbinaa lamunqaliboon.

Allaahumma innaa nas’aluka fee safarinaa haadhal-birra wat-taqwaa, wa minal-‘amali maa tardaa. Allaahumma hawwin ‘alainaa safaranaa haadhaa watwi ‘annaa bu‘dahu. Allaahumma antas-saahibu fis-safari, wal-khaleefatu fil-ahl.

Allaahumma innee a‘oodhu bika min wa‘thaa’is-safari, wa ka’aabatil-manzari, wa soo’il-munqalabi fil-maali wal-ahl.

English Meaning

“Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest.”

“Glory be to Him Who has subjected this for us, and we could not have controlled it ourselves. And surely, to our Lord we shall return.”

“O Allah, we ask You on this journey of ours for righteousness and piety, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance. O Allah, You are our Companion during the journey and the Guardian of our family.”

“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, from an unpleasant change of scenery, and from an unfortunate return concerning our wealth and family.”
